The PACS (Paramedic Assessment of Critical Skills) and the PACK (Paramedic Assessment of Critical Knowledge)
are two web-based assessments designed to assist EMS organizations in the selection, development and performance evaluation of paramedics
and EMTs.
The PACS and the PACK are designed for use by hiring managers, supervisors, HR managers.
They can use
the PACS or PACK Interview Guides to interview and then rate job applicants on the same PACS skills or PACK knowledge that the job applicants rated.
The objective is that EMS organizations can select, develop and evaluate their current paramedics
and EMTs (or job applicants) more effectively.
The PACS and the PACK can be taken by a single rater (paramedic,
EMT or manager) or multi-rater (paramedic, EMT, manager, peers & others). They
are designed to evaluate paramedics/EMTs on 7 measures of professionalism, 7 critical work-experience skills and 13 categories of commonly required knowledge.
What is measured in the PACS and PACK?
How does it work?
All steps in the administration of the PACS & PACK are online, accessible 24-hours a day.

- 1. The manager selects the paramedic(s) to take the PACS or the PACK. He or she can schedule the assessment(s) or may
delegate the scheduling to a central administrator.
- 2. The manager or administrator modifies any scheduled assessments as needed, online. An email is sent to the paramedics/managers/
peers who are scheduled to take the PACS/PACK.
- 3. The paramedic, and if it is a multi-rater PACS or PACK - the manager, peers or others, take the assessment, rating the paramedic's
work experience, professionalism or knowledge.
- [Managers can check the status of the PACS/ the PACK at any time to see when the assessment(s) is
completed.]
- 4. Online access to the report is available immediately upon completion of the assessment.
Why use the PACS & PACK?
The PACS & PACK were developed with the support and sponsorship of Stamford EMS,
